12. Running the co-design groups
Co-design groups are small working groups of patients and staff designing and implementing solutions to the priority issues highlighted at the joint staff and service user event. The groups meet regularly and keep in touch between meetings.
Ideas are generated and solutions are tested. New Beginnings had co-design groups which worked on designing:
- a new way of tying the hospital gown to improve skin to skin contact in theatre for mother and baby as soon as the baby is born
- the operating theatre environment
- the information provided to women so that they would be better prepared what to expect, and so that they would be introduced to the staff who work in the operating theatre, who they would be meeting for the first time
