Who is this guide for and how does it work?
This toolkit is for anyone wanting to lead an experience based co-design improvement project, and is particularly relevant for maternity services and for surgery.
Each section of the step-by-step guide provides film, pictures and written material from the New Beginnings Project – an Experience Based Co-design project based in maternity services, aimed at improving the experience of people giving birth in the operating theatre, or having some part of their birth experience in the operating theatre.
The guide also provides links back to the Point of Care Foundation’s EBCD toolkit at the start of each section which will give you more advice about the process (not specific to maternity services). If you follow these links you will find short videos from staff and patients involved in EBCD projects which help bring to life the successes and rewards of running this type of improvement project. It also includes downloadable resources to help you plan and carry out this approach.
Getting more help with your EBCD project
We regularly run EBCD workshops, led by expert trainers, which teach participants how to use the experience based co-design method to improve the delivery of their services and make them more responsive to patients. Visit our Event page to find out more information about our upcoming workshops.
We also offer tailored training and support, which can be delivered at your organisation. For more information, please email info@pointofcarefoundation.org.uk
We also offer a Community of Practice for everyone who works with the EBCD methodology. It offers an opportunity to meet and share ideas and learning.
