The fifteenth and sixteenth meetings of the HOPE network took place in Leeds and London, and were held in collaboration with NHS Improvement’s Improvement Directors Network. The title of the meeting was Networks Squared, and aimed to build ties between to the two networks, and between patient experience and quality improvement.

On the 7th November, the HOPE network met in London for its fourteenth meeting. This meeting focused on the different aspects of patient, staff and managers’ experience. YOu can find the slides and other content below.

On the 11th July, the HOPE network met in Cambridge for its second regional meeting. The meeting was designed to enable as many members to engage with the network as possible, especially those who are not usually able to join us in London, as well as to connect with local networks. It explored the recurring and important theme of engaging patients and staff, with the focus on doctors.

Thursday 5th July 2018
In July the HOPE network met in London for the twelfth meeting of the network to look at staff engagement and experience, with a focus on how it shapes patient experience. We invited HOPE members to bring along colleagues from Human Resources and Organisational Development, and we had nine join us. The meeting coincided with the NHS’s 70th Birthday, so in the afternoon the members celebrated with cake.

This was the first ever regional meeting of the HOPE network, and the eleventh meeting in total. Held in Taunton it was designed to enable as many members to engage with the network as possible especially those who are not usually able to join us in London, as well as to connect with local networks. This was the tenth meeting of the HOPE network. Held at the Royal College of Anaesthetists in London, the theme was ‘Data, stories and feedback: how can we make measurement work for us?’

The theme for this meeting, which took place at the Wellcome Collection, was ‘change, and how to cope with it’. It was great to see another room brimming with members, and delegates really enjoyed the resilience workshop they took part in in the morning, as well as exploring how to keep patient experience at the fore of STP planning in the afternoon.

The theme for this meeting, which took place at University College London Hospitals NHS Trust, was ‘happy staff, happy patients’. It was fantastic that 60 members attended and the atmosphere throughout was lively and stimulating, with a great combination of expert speakers and contributions from members themselves.

Thursday 10th November 2016
The sixth HOPE network meeting took place at the Wellcome Collection in London. The focus of the meeting was ‘leading and influencing for patient experience’ and it was great to see another packed room, following the success of our fully-booked meeting in July.
Marcus Powell, Director of Leadership and Organisational Development at the King’s Fund, joined us to discuss how and why influencing is important when working to improve patient experience.

The fifth meeting of the HOPE network was the best attended so far, with 55 members coming together to discuss patient leadership and involvement; it proved to be a lively and stimulating day of learning and knowledge-sharing.
We started the day discussion on the question of “What is a Patient Leader?” Ceinwen Giles, Alison Cameron and David Gilbert shared the stage, weaving together both emotive and informative of each person’s personal “dramatic fall from grace” and an exploration of what encouraged them to get involved with work centred on improving patient care and experience.

The focus of the third meeting of the HOPE network was ‘measurement for improvement’ in patient experience. Feedback from network members suggested that measuring patient experience was a common concern, so the network facilitators created an agenda aimed at giving members the tools to feel more confident about measurement.

This meeting focused on using social media to improve patient experience. Attendees heard presentations from Sarah Ashurst, Senior Subscriber Support Officer at Patient Opinion; Rowan Davies, Head of Policy & Campaigns at Mumsnet; and Ceinwen Giles, all of which provided insight into how social media can engage patients and act as a live feedback mechanism.

The first meeting of the HOPE network explored the challenges and wishes of members, in order for us to meet their needs effectively. Members made it clear that they would value inspirational ideas and the opportunity to share learning with each other, rather than receiving top-down instruction. They also wanted to be informed about emerging policy and national initiatives from NHS England and other arms-length bodies.
